Packet Radio Monitor v1.00
To monitor packet radio traffic you need:
1. Radio receiver.
2. HamComm (or similar) interface.
3. This program
4. IBM PC/AT compatible - a fast one...
To receive 1200 bps VHF packet:
- tune the VHF receiver to a packet frequency in FM mode
- connect HamComm interface to receiver audio
and PC's COM 1 or 2 on the other side.
- start PKTMON
- select COM, mode (try 2 or 3), log file (CR for screen output)
- watch for packets...
To receive 300 HF packet:
- Tune the HF receiver to a packet frequency (e.g. 14097 kHz)
It is recomended that you use CW narrow filter
(700 Hz center, 500 Hz width)
- connect HamComm interface, etc.
- Start SPECTRUM, select COM port
- _Precisely_ tune the receiver such that packet tones
are at 600 and 800 Hz.
You may try as well 800 & 1000, 1000 & 1200, etc.
- start PKTMON
- select COM port, mode 1, log file,
- watch for packets...
Notes:
The program should terminates when you press ENTER.
If it does not that is an indication that your PC is too slow...
Disconnect the audio and it will terminate.
What to do if your PC is slow indeed ? Try to use squelch
in FM mode to limit the amount of data your PC has to process.
This often helps.
PKTMON was tested on a 386SX/20MHz machine.
PKTMON is written in Turbo Pascal v6.0
with some parts in Pascal's built-in assembler.
PKTMON program is free for non-comercial use.

In preparation:
- HF FAX with HamComm interface
- Packet Radio Collector - reconstructs data flow between
packet stations.
In there any interest in these ?
